We couldn't fault the apartment - great sea view and city view, close to all the bars and restaurants but still quite area.

The Apartment was in a great location and we had a great stay. The free parking made the stay even more enjoyable.

nice place-it was all about the balcony-awesome views
This was a fun place to stay and I would call it very nice. The bathroom could use some maintenance-not a big deal but worthy of mentioning. The offsite parking was great. It should be known that the lot opens at 7 am so if you have an early morning flight you will need to find another place to park, we parked at the lot near the cable car. I would absolutely stay here again

Dankeschön, wir hatten einen tollen Urlaub, eine schöne Wohnung mit tollem Balkon und einem wunderschönen Ausblick. Vielleicht wäre eine Klimaanlage toll für das Schlafzimmer. Und die Wartungsfugen in der Dusche sollten mal erneuert werden. Ansonsten haben wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Fantastic location and superb views.
My wife and I throughly enjoyed our 2/52 stay in this apartment. The location and views across the ocean are superb. We had a fantastic holiday. The apartment was clean, tidy and well furnished. Access instructions were clear and precise. With it being situated immediately opposite the university residence and the old fort, which is a popular wedding and party venue, this accommodation is not suitable for people who sleep lightly. The traffic noise and smell of exhaust fumes, particular that caused by motor scooters is high, plus at night some people party on the beach and play loud music. There are plenty of excellent bars and small restaurants nearby, some with live music. It was great having our own cooking facilities as eating out all the time would prove expensive as restaurant prices are increasing due to inflation and the fuel crisis, plus in many establishments portion sizes are at the same time getting smaller. In the supermarket in the centre of Funchal we found delicious bottles of wine for just €2 a bottle, or less! Many bars and hotels charge €3-6 a glass! We attended The Ritz Hotel weekly cabaret show and dinner, with drinks included, and had a fantastic time.

Great to be "home" again
Hello Ligia, André and Marcos That's how it feels "home". Great appartment . Chillen on the balcony . Great view, a lot to see. Beautiful Levada walks and good local transportation very close to the appartment. Only pity of the student house next door. They did not have their course silence between 23 and 7 o'clock , as you on our instructies page explained, and witch I fully agree. Maybe an airco in the bedroom will solve this. Hope to come back to this wonderfull place on earth.

Fabulous apartment shame about the traffic noise.
My husband and I loved this apartment but sad to say sleep was difficult. The accommodation is so well sited as there are no buildings in front to impede the view. Inside everything is lovely and clean and comfortable. Although we had sleep issues we would return to this top floor flat as the terrace is superb and although basic everything you need on a city holiday is there. Santa Maria rua is a main artery from the old town and there are student halls across from the main door. Take ear plugs and you should have a great time.

It was really appreciated that they arranged a free and good parking place for our car. The appartment would have been even better if there was a kind of real airconditioning in the bedroom. The rest of the appartment was cool enough.

Smart apartment, great location.
This is the second year we have stayed at Zona Velha 111. Last year we were in apt 2, this time we were in no 3. The apartment was smaller than last year but had a much larger, more private, balcony. We love the location as it is next to the old Fort and it is interesting to watch tourists go in an out and functions taking place there. Watched a spectacular fireworks display from our balcony. There is a very good restaurant on the ground floor of the apartments,with very friendly and helpful staff. As it is placed at the edge of the old town, there are dozens of restaurants serving good and well priced food. The other feature that is important to us is the fact that it is possible to walk into Funchal town, and right along to the far end without encountering any hills. The bus station is nearby with very reasonably priced and frequent buses. The cable car station is also very nearby. The apartment is well appointed, roomy shower, reasonably well stocked kitchen, and a washing machine which is a boon. One has to get accustomed to the noisy street behind the property, it is a very narrow, cobbled street, so cars and motor bikes can be a bit trying. However, all goes pretty quiet after midnight. My only observation is that maintenance needs to be managed a little better. We were a bit disappointed with the condition of the shower, the grouting and door edges need some care and attention. The fridge needed defrosting, I didn't mind digging out the ice tray but was not prepared to defrost the whole fridge. Also, some more and matching wine glasses would be appreciated. However, we loved our stay and hope to return to one or other of these apartments in the future.

Almost perfect.
I have already given a detailed review to Booking.com. We were very pleased with the location, the apartment and the service. The only small negatives were: 1. The apartment was possibly a little over-priced. 2. The pillows on the bed were not of a good enough quality. 3. Similarly the toaster, was also what I would call, "cheap and nasty".

Best location
Modern cozy apartment with a big balcony & seaview in a very good location in the outskirts of the old town. Good facilities. The bed though is an one big double mattress with a matrimonial cover, so if you turn in the night your partneri is turning also...The restaurant Cidade Velha downstairs is also very good. The personal was very helpful, everything was fixed prompt with a smile.

Location, location, location! What a fantastic location in the heart of the old town, next to the old Fort looking out over the water. You couldn't find a place closer to all the restaurants, one of the best is right below the rental unit. Very modern recently renovated accomodation totally outfitted from Ikea. You don't need a car but if you have one they provide parking in a parcade, it's a bit of a walk but parking is very limited in the old town. It is a third floor walk up so be prepared to lug your luggage. Also be prepared to buy your own toilet paper and paper towels they don't provide much in the way of supplies. Would definitely stay here again.
