Between the sea and the mountain, in Santana - World Biosphere Reserve. Situated in a privileged location, thanks to the forest area that surrounds it. It has a sea view, completing the calm setting with the natural beauty of the area. With rustic architecture, due to its stone construction, this house has been remodeled to give you more comfort.

Casa de Campo do Arco de São Jorge has three bedrooms and two bathrooms with shower, spread over the two floors that complete the property. With a refined and country decoration, it is in harmony with the raw and rustic aspect of the stone
The ground floor has a spacious and comfortable living room, equipped with a salamander, to keep you warm during winter days, accompanied by a glass of wine and a cheese board.
You can enjoy the balcony on the property's first floor, which will surely give you several moments with perfect sceneries to publish in your Instagram stories. Outside, you have a great living space with barbecue area, where the evenings will be perfect moments to put your culinary skills into practice and impress your friends or family with delicious meals.

AREA
The property is located in the Municipality of Santana, more precisely in the parish of Arco de São Jorge. Near the property there is a restaurant "O Arco", some trails and the famous "Quinta das Rosas", where you can get to know several varieties of roses from all over the world, in a pleasant and cared space.
It takes about 20 minutes by car to get to the centre of Santana. In the same municipality, there are parks, hiking trails and the famous Pico Ruivo, the highest peak of the island.

To get to Funchal you need about 50 minutes by car

GETTING AROUND
The best option to get to the property will be the transfer. Ask us to book one with our local partners. It is cheaper than the taxis you find at the airport.
If you rent a car, any navigation app can easily find the address.

ACCESS TO PROPERTY
You have access to all areas of the property.

INTERACTION
We are always available to help or answer any questions. We do our best to reply all requests. We also have an app for guests with all the important information about the property and other useful information for your stay.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (passport or identity card).
- Check-in hour must be scheduled in advance. If it is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours before, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.

ATTENTION
We inform that a Municipal Tourist Ecotax will be charged for person staying overnight in the municipality of Santana.
All guests staying in tourist developments and / or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged 2,00€ per person/night, up to a maximum 7 nigths stay/ 14€ per person. Close to your arrival, you will receive the link to pay this fee.

Uncomfortable house with lots of little stairs and a big, steep, small and not steady stair to the living downstairs. We where here with 2 people above 85 years and they could not enter this stairs. The house is very very humid and even the dehumidifiers couldn't get it dry. There is very little kitchen utensils and coffee mugs so the dishwasher can't be used, because there is nothing left to use in the cupboard. The Woodburn in the living room. Had no glass and couldn't be used. There are electric heaters, but the elecsystem is too weak and the power falls out. The toilet seats are loose and the shower, which is fine by the way, leaks. There are 1 big towel and 1 small towel per person for a week, which was inconvenient because the washing machine could do it's job, but in this time of the year the laundry does not dry outside. We could get some more towels at the price of 15 euros which we found exorbitant. Overall, it looks great, but no comfort, especially with older people.

Spacious traditional house in rural area at northern part.
All facilities in place including firewood, which is essential to warm up the house a bit in the evening.
Note that electricity switches located behind the TV, if it suddenly turns off, good to know.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Casa de Campo do Arco de São Jorge, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect retreat. The cottage was exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped; it truly felt like a home away from home, and we never found ourselves lacking anything during our stay.

The weather in February was cool, so we made full use of the cozy fireplace, which not only kept us warm but also added a lovely atmosphere to the house. It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring.

The surroundings were absolutely stunning—lush, vibrant greenery stretched out in every direction, and the clouds, hovering at the top of the mountain behind the house, created a dramatic and picturesque view. It felt like we were tucked away in a serene, peaceful haven.

We were pleased to find that the cottage was well-maintained, and halfway through our stay, it was cleaned and the bed linens and towels were replaced, ensuring everything remained fresh and comfortable.

The location was ideal, with a local bar and restaurant less than 100 meters from the house, providing convenient dining options. Additionally, the supermarket in Santana was just a 10-minute drive away, making it easy to stock up on supplies.

The cottage was also a fantastic base for exploring the island, with its location providing easy access to a variety of attractions and natural beauty spots.

Overall, Casa de Campo do Arco de São Jorge was an excellent choice for our family getaway, offering both comfort and a perfect starting point for island exploration.

Die Lage
Die Luftfeuchtigkeit war sehr hoch 85% bei der Anreise! Das ganze Haus war kaltund über die 14Tage mit den 4 kleinen e-Radiatoren nicht warm zu bekommen.
Die beiden Luftentfeuchter haben jeden Tag 40l Wasser aus der Luft geholt
Das Feuerholz für die Kamine (bei einem Kamin war die Frontscheibe undicht) war dementsprechend sehr feucht.
Die Duschen waren undicht.
Die Elektrik war/ist eine Katastrophe. Die Verkabelung hinter dem TV war mM Lebensgefährlich. Die Sicherung musste öfters neu eingeschaltet werden (Siehe auch die anderen Rezessionen hier und bei Google und die Bilder).
Armatur in der Küche defekt. Parkplatz vom Nachbar besetzt. Ist auf jeden Fall kein öffentl. Parkplatz .
Meiner Meinung nach ist der Support von Booking.com super gewesen, war aber "gegen" den unwilligen schlechten vor Ort Support, chancenlos! Die geschilderten Probleme existierten nicht erst seit unserer Ankunft . Wie aus den anderen Rezessionen zu entnehmen ist.

Man wohnt mitten im „Jungle“. Auf das etwas abenteuerliche Haus muss man sich einlassen und im Klaren sein das es von Natur und dessen Bewohner (kleine Krabbeltiere sowie Katzen) umgeben ist. Wir haben uns recht zügig eingelebt nach dem die beiden Kamine sowie Heizkörper eingeheizt waren und die Luftentfeuchter liefen. Aufgrund der hohen Luftfeuchtigkeit und Steinfundaments ist es recht feucht. Die Zimmer sind alle sauber. Und die Küche hat alles was man braucht. Achtung es darf nur nicht gleichzeitig alles laufen sonst gibt es schnell Kurzschluss. Der Stromkasten ist unten hinter dem Fernseher. Für ältere Menschen oder Menschen mit Gehbehinderung ist dieses Haus definitiv nichts. Aber für abenteuerlustige, Naturfreunde ja.
Es gibt im oberen Bereich des Hauses 2 Schlafzimmer, Küche und Badezimmer mit Dusche und im unteren Bereich 1 Schlafzimmer (2 einzeln Betten) plus Wohnzimmer und Badezimmer. Der untere Bereich ist übrigens schneller warm.
1) Auf dem eigentlich großen Parkplatz ist ein abgestelltes Schrott Auto, was das parken recht abenteuerlich gestaltet hat.
Am besten wendet man vor dem Parken beim Restaurant dann ist das Parken wesentlich einfacher als wenn man von der Stadt kommt.
3) unbedingt reichlich Anzünder für den Kamin besorgen, denn ohne das bekommt man das feuchte Feuerholz so gut wie kaum an bzw. nur mit große Mühe
4) Die Holztreppe ist wirklich sehr steil und schmal hier ist Vorsicht geboten gerade für ältere Menschen
5) Natürlich muss man mit Krabbeltieren in einem Steinhaus mitten im „Jungle“ Natur rechnen, aber das muss man auch in einer Wohnung. Also das war weiter nicht schlimm.
WICHTIGSTE INFO:
Stromkasten hinter dem Fernseher unten im Wohnzimmer! Das ist eine wichtige Info weil die Sicherung (wenn viel angesteckt ist) öfter mal ausgefallen ist. Diese Info ist das wichtigste wie ich finde. Wenn ihr kocht unbedingt die Heizkörper und die Entlüfter vorher aus der Steckdose ziehen. Alles zusammen gibt Kurzschluss.

Wir waren sehr enttäuscht von der Unterkunft. Es roch die ganze Zeit modrig, obwohl wir zwei Entlüfter permanent laufen ließen (was sehr laut war). Im Dachstuhl leben Ratten, die die ganze Nacht unterwegs sind. Wir sind mehrfach davon aufgewacht. Die Ausstattung der Küche ist in so schlechtem Zustand, dass man kaum kochen kann.

La photo vue de l exterieur
Lits confortables.
Nous avons passé 2 nuits dans cette maison.

Je confirme qu il y a une vraie forte odeur de moisissure/humidité très désagréable au rez de chaussée (où il y a le salon et une des chambres).

Il y a des poules juste à côté de la maison, nous avons été réveillés les 2 matins à 5h30 par le coq. (vraiment pas génial pendant les vacances).

Il y a aussi un chien enchaîné seul devant la porte de la "grange" juste à côté de la maison. Il a abboyé et couiné pendant les 2 jours à chaque fois qu'il nous voyait ou nous entendait, sans doute pour chercher notre attention.c' était crève cœur.

Dans la cuisine, le robinet de l'évier et une prise n'étaient pas fixés.

Les couverts pour manger pourraient être plus récents...

Nous ne sommes pas phobiques aux insectes, mais il faut bien savoir qu'en raison de l'implantation de la maison en pleine vegétation, nous avons eu des insectes dans la maison (cafards, scolopendre, arraignees).

Très jolie maison au milieu de la verdure, grands espaces à vivre et bien équipée, très chaleureuse et propre. Place de parking utile !
Contrairement au commentaires précédent nous n’avons pas été dérangé par l’humidité bien qu’arrivés un jour de pluie, et il n’y avait pas d’insectes dérangeant non plus.
Manque une machine à laver et les capsules de la machine à café sont difficile à trouver dans les petits supermarchés du coin (mais il y en avait quelques-unes à disposition)

The outside of the house itself is beautiful.
There are cute cats hanging around the property
Fireplace
-According to the host it is normal to find cockroaches in the house and they can’t do anything about it. ( that’s what she said to me after I texted her about seeing so many).
-It is very humid, even tho they put two humidifiers (that I had to empty everyday).
-The wifi doesn’t work at the upper part of the house.
-The stairway to go down is so small and narrow.
-When you take a shower downstairs it leaks as soon as you open the door.

La casa aparte de bonita, contaba con todo lo necesario para la estancia, daba pena no poder disfrutarla más ya que pasábamos el día fuera. Tuvimos un problema con las llaves, era tarde y nos lo solucionaron muy rápido y con un trato excelente. Muy recomendable.

Établissement très agréable dans cette magnifique maison rustique pour un voyage typique sur l’île de Madère ! L’architecture de cette maison est incroyable, avec les les murs en pierres, l’équipement à l’ancienne… On s’y sent extrêmement bien pour un séjour typique sur une île de ce genre. Le lieu de la maison est aussi un grand plus. Avec la montagne derrière c’était juste magnifique.
Maison grande et dans la nature = pas mal d’insectes et d’araignée. La maison qui est aussi en pierres vient avec une forte odeur d’humidité… mais au final c’est ce qui rend cette maison spéciale.

Paní Linda, která na nás čekala při předávání domu, byla opravdu moc milá a ochotná, během pobytu s námi komunikovala skvěle a byla ochotná kdykoliv pomoci - bylo to příjemné.
Je to hezký dům, ale starý a potřeboval by zmodernizovat - především elektřina často vypadává, myčka není uzemněná a probíjí, bojler s teplou vodou je zapojen do prodlužovací šňůry, která leží na pračce a kape do ní voda z přetlakového bojleru - to vidím jako největší problém. I uvnitř zařízení jsou drobnosti, které by stály za to opravit, např. sklo z krbu vypadává, protože úchyty jsou nefunkční. Celý dům působí vlhce a zatuchle, ale to zřejmě proto, že jsme byli na Madeiře v zimním období a obývali jsme ho po delší nepřítomnosti jiných hostů.
Pro výpravy na severní stranu ostrova je umístění domu výborné, výhled je také moc pěkný.
Celkově se nám pobyt v Campo Arco moc líbil, strávili jsme v domě poslední týden ze tří týdnů naší dovolené na Madeiře a byli jsme spokojeni, ale na druhou stranu je pravda, že jsme v předchozích týdnech za lepší ubytovaní platili méně peněz.

Everything was perfect. Nice and clean with everything you need. Maybe for longer stays you’ll feel the lack of a washing machine, but for our 5 nights stay we didn’t need it. The fact that there was coffee was just the cherry on top. The host was replying really fast to our messages. Fast as in instant.
It is a bit humid, but considering the climate and the fact that is an old stone house nothing we would have not expected and there were those dehumidifier witch just did the job.

Der Check-In war sehr einfach, über einen Schlüsselkasten.
Die Unterkunft ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge an die Nordküste und hat einen Kamin.

In der Unterkunft roch es leider doch etwas modrig und auch im Garten roch es etwas nach Abwasser.
Auf dem Grundstück nebenan werden Hühner und mindestens ein Hahn gehalten, wenn man einen leichten schlaft hat, dann wird man hier möglicherweise früher als erwünscht geweckt.

Unter, oder auf dem Dach war nachts auch einiges an Getier unterwegs, welche man leider gut hören kann.

Insgesamt durch das generelle Klima eine sehr Hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit und an einigen Stellen scheint Schimmel.

Uns ist mehrfach eine Sicherung rausgeflogen, so dass wir ohne Strom waren. Der Sicherungskasten befindet sich etwas versteckt hinter dem Fernseher.

Insgesamt war es okay, würden wir aber nicht erneut buchen.

Szép a kilátás
Dohos volt a ház, állandó nyitott ablakok mellett 4 nap után lehet elviselhetető.
Egyik délután a házban nem volt víz, az illetékesnek kontakt személy nem válaszolt az üzenetre, hívásokra. Végül a közeli étteremben kaptunk másnap segítséget, valaki elzárta a vizet.
Másnap reggel érkezett egy üzenet, hogy minden rendben van-e.

Der Ckeck-In war unkompliziert. Die Behausung war äußerlich schön, es gab jedoch Mängel die nicht hinnehmbar waren.

Geschirrspüler hatte kein Salz oder Klarspüler. Bei Berührung des äußeren Gehäuses gab es einen Elektroschock wie von einem Weidezaun. Telefonischer Kontakt: Die kontaktierte Person sicherte uns zu es werde Jemand kommen. Es kam Niemand.

Weitere Mängel:
- Coutisch in der unteren Etage hatte eine gebrochenen Fuß der nur provisorisch angebaut war und der Tisch war damit nicht stabil und nutzbar
- Salamander Ofen im Untergeschoss war nicht nutzbar, weil der Schornstein nicht durchgängig war; keine Anzündhilfe oder Feuerzeug zum Ofen
- Feuchtigkeit Untergeschoss mit schwarzem Schimmel hinter teils abfallenden Fließen und Schimmel an beiden Betten im Untergeschoss + modriger Geruch
- Kopfkissen dreckig
- Matratzen dreckig
- Töpfe aus Aluminium (Gesundheitsschädlich)
- Kakerlaken in Behausung

und viele weitere Mängel die aus Platzgründen anderenorts berichtet werden.

Het is een heel mooi en gezellig huisje met een unieke sfeer. Met de auto geraak je gemakkelijk op verschillende plekken van het eiland terwijl de buurt relatief rustig is. Alles is aanwezig wat er moet zijn en er is ook een restaurant en een klein winkeltje. Als je hier komt neem dan wat katten eten mee voor de zwerf katjes die op het terras komen, ze zijn heel lief vanaf ze je vertrouwen en lusten graag tonijn :). Ik heb maar 1 minpuntje en dat was dat er beneden last was van kakkerlakken. ik heb dit gemeld aan Filipe en hij stuurde meteen iemand om te poetsen. Al bij al hebben we erg genoten van dit verblijf en ik raad het zeker aan :)

Leider haben wir bei Ankunft ein Haus vorgefunden was nicht unseren Erwartungen entsprochen hat.
Es wurde das dreckige Geschirr der Vormieter in der Geschirrspülmaschine gelassen, auf allen Bettbezügen und Bettlaken waren Flecken und z.T Haare.
Die Räume, vor allem die Bäder und das untere Schlafzimmer sind sehr sehr klein.
Insgesamt sind die Fotos des Inserats gut gemacht aber in live ist das Haus deutlich kleiner und verwinkelter.
Hinzukommt, dass dieses Haus absolut nicht für kleine Kindern geeignet ist, da zu jedem Raum eine bis zwei Steinstufen führen.
Die zwei Luftentfeuchter sind leider sehr laut und haben nur einen geringen nicht merkbaren Nutzen.
Wir haben uns leider überhaupt nicht wohlgefühlt und sind verfrüht abgereist.

Das Haus liegt im Osten der Insel Madeira. Mit dem Auto ist das Ferienhaus gut erreichbar. Es liegt an einer leichtbefahrenen Strasse. In der Nähe befindet sich ein gutes Restaurant. Die Räumlichkeiten waren sehr sauber. Die Küche ist etwas mangelhaft ausgestattet. Für grosses Kochen reicht es leider nicht aus. Betten sind sauber und bequem. Balkon hat schöne Aussicht. Das Haus hat Charme und ist auch für längere Aufenthalte geeignet. Wir haben die Zeit in Madeira genossen.

Wir haben eine Woche in der Unterkunft verbracht. Vorab: Die Lage des Hauses ist wirklich schön, und der Blick aufs Meer zum Frühstück auf dem Balkon ebenso. Jedoch liegt das Haus, wie auf den Bildern zu sehen an der Straße und wenn man mit offenen Fenstern schläft, wird man neben dem Geräusch von Vögeln auch vom Auto und Motorrad Lärm wach. Das Haus ist geräumig und kühl, man sollte sich jedoch nicht vor Ungeziefer fürchten, da man im Unter- und Obergeschoss auch mal auf Kakerlaken trifft. Leider wirkte das obere Badezimmer nicht so sauber, vorallem die Toilette und die Dusche. Das Haus hat wie viele Unterkünfte auf Madeira mit modrigem Geruch zu kämpfen, kräftig lüften und die aufgestellten Luftentfeuchter haben hier geholfen. Katzenfans werden Freude haben, wir hatten Besuch von zwei Katzenmamas mit Babys. Im großen und ganzen kann ich die Unterkunft empfehlen, man sollte aber mit nicht zu hohen Ansprüchen anreisen.

Very happy with our stay here, house has everything needed, in a quiet village, great restaurant just up the hill. Car rentals can be delivered and there is so much to see and do within an hour's drive from the property. An Island was very helpful with the few questions we had. Thanks 😊

Charming house in a really beautiful and calm area, close to nature but can quickly get to the islands attractions. All necessary appliances were available although sometimes hard to find like the washing machine which was in a room accessible from outside.
Tip: bring some food for the local cats as they always come and visit in the mornings and evenings, probably having gotten used to previous visitors feeding them ;-)

ubytování bylo v příjemné lokalitě, za domem hory, před domem oceán,i když pod utesem. cca 50 m od ubytováním místní restaurace, kde vyborne varili. lokalita byla velice klidná a vše odpovídá popisu a fotografiím.

We enjoyed our stay. The house is big. The kitchen is well equipped. Some of the rooms are very nice. Look for a walk/trail next to restaurant Arco! However, I will mention a few things: The house is next to a bigger road, and the house was a little moist and had a “wet” smell (the dehumidifier helped). It was also necessary to deal with a few flies every day. Also the neighbor next door has a dog, chickens and roosters that made noise (also very early in the mornings).

Location and an amazing view.
I wish I could tell this was lovely, rustic cottage with an amazing ocean and mountains view. But unfortunately I would lie. Rustic cottage with the view is right, however it was really far away from lovely. I can understand a lot of insects, cockroaches and strange noises coming in from the ?roof? (I believe they were coming from there), because house is like in the heart of jungle. But the cottage was just dirty, mouldy and with really high humidity. We couldn’t even set up the fire in the fireplace, because the wood was very wet. Our laundry never got dried up. It wasn’t that cold in the night, but it was very unpleasant with the stink of the mould, because one of the electric radiators did not work. We informed the landlord about the issues with setting up the fire, but we got reply that he cannot do anything about it. Cottage has a barbecue place in the terrace, which, spoiler alert, could not be set up because of the wet wood. Luckily our stay in Madeira was fantastic despite this sad and uncomfortable accommodation. I cannot recommend this house. However it has a huge potential and hopefully opinions will be taken under further consideration.

The island is beautiful and is a paradise for anybody who enjoys hiking. The house lacked on some points whereby we felt that we did not our value for the money we had paid. The neighbours dog barks at unreasonable hours. There was no firewood in the house for the fireplaces upon arrival for warmth, which we find to be very important, given that it was winter and that the house remains in the shadow of the mountain 95% of the day, keeping it rather cool inside. This luckily was quickly attended to by the owners. There is no doubt the owners take pride in their rental, and it is prime location to find some rest and peace away from the haste of Funchal, however fixing these points would get them even further in the service that they offer and keeping happy guests.

House was very nice, the proper feels like real airbnb, not commercial rental. There are two fireplaces in house, it helped very much, because we lived there at the end of December and the sunlight doesn’t warms up the house in the daytime.

Alles so weit wie versprochen. Das Haus ist sehr geräumig und mit den Kaminfeuern auch im Dezember sehr gemütlich.

Die Waschmaschine war defekt. Was mich nicht gestört hat.

Kommunikation und Freundlichkeit waren super.

Gerne wieder.

The house is quite rustic and traditial. Which doesn't need to be bad. The interior is also a bit old fashioned. There was no wi-fi in the upper area where in my opinion is the handout area. As the kitchen/dining room has plenty of room. Being downstairs in the living room felt a bit like being locked up. Very dark and narrow. After 2 days, we couldn't log in to wi-fi anymore at all and had to pay for extra mobile data packages from our provider.
The house is placed in a very dark spot which didn't make our stay really comfortable.

Big house, nice location, very fast WIFI although can only take full advantage of it on the lower floor of the house. Dehumidifiers running on both levels require regular emptying. A few cockroaches are visible first thing in the morning, but quickly disappear.
We had a pleasant stay and it was amazing value for money.
Excellent coffee making facilities were provided, which we appreciated. Overall would absolutely recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at Sao Jorge a lot. The house had everything we needed, there were no problems with check-in or check-out. It is a bit further away from everything, but with a car it was not a problem.

Hébergement situé dans un petit village de montagne, des routes sinueuses pour y arriver, mieux vaut avoir louer une voiture. Le chalet est propre et bien équipé.
Nous avons passé un bon et agréable séjour. La côte de ce côté de l’île est très belle et verte.
