One-bedroom apartment with sea view balcony, barbecue and patio, located just a few minutes from the center of Funchal, perfect for a vacation on Madeira Island.
Casa Strelitzia is a traditional Madeira house located in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, with special architectural and historical interest for Funchal's Old Town. Within walking distance of the Central Market and the Promenade do Porto. This house is one of the few holiday properties situated in such a central and prestigious area.
Split over two floors, the holiday home on the first floor sleeps up to six people and the studio above sleeps 2 people. If booked together, the whole property can accommodate 8 guests, a great place to celebrate Madeira's famous and spectacular New Year's Eve fireworks.
Each flat has a balcony with fabulous sea views, perfect for breakfast, evening drinks or just enjoying the sun. Free WiFi, satellite TV, comfortable sofa, dining area, well-equipped kitchen with cooking utensils, oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee machine and kettle. The private bathrooms come with a shower, a hairdryer, free toiletries, bed linen and towels. The 24-hour reception, run by An Island Apart, is on hand for any eventuality.
The court yard below and rear access is shared by both apartments, with table and chairs this area can be a quiet retreat to relax in the cool or used to entertain family and guests. Traditional volcanic stone built wood fire BBQ, concealed washing machine and dryer are also in the patio area and it is access to the shared Basement Garage which offers desirable center of town, secure and private parking accommodates one car park to each apartment.

AREA
With views of the city, Casa Strelitzia is situated in Funchal. Popular points of interest near the holiday home include Funchal Marina, São Tiago Fort and Funchal Cathedral. Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport is 18 km from Casa Strelitzia by An Island Apart, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service.
If you choose to go to the centre of Funchal, take the opportunity to explore the city, visit the Mercado de Lavradores and sample Madeiran cuisine in the typical restaurants.

GETTING AROUND
The best option to get to the property will be the transfer. Ask us to book one with our local partners. It is cheaper than the taxis you find at the airport.
If you rent a car, any navigation app can easily find the address.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes walk from the apartment.
ACCESS TO PROPERTY
You have access to all areas of the property.
INTERACTION
We are always available to help or answer questions. We do our best to reply all requests. We also have an app for guests with all the important information about the property and other useful information for your stay.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (passport or identity card).
- Check-in hour must be scheduled in advance. If it is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours before, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.
ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

Cancelation policy
Free cancellation up to 14 days before check-in. If the reservation is made less than 14 days before check-in, the cancellation is free up to 48 hours after the reservation, up to a maximum of 5 days before check-in.
After that, guests may cancel up to 5 days prior to check-in and receive a refund of the price per night and the cleaning fee, but not of the service fee.

We almost gave the stay a 5 star but we agree with the other reviews that there is a strong bad smell in the bathroom. The flat could also benefit from air conditioning as it was very warm over night.

Der einzige Nachteil ist die Hitze und der Geruch im Schlaf- und Badezimmer. Zum Glück stehen Ventilatoren zur Verfügung, um die angestaute Hitze aus dem Raum zu blasen. Im hinteren Bad riecht es etwas streng nach Abfluss. Allerdings haben diese beiden Unannehmlichkeiten uns nicht eingeschränkt. Wir hatten dennoch einen angenehmen Aufenthalt in dem Apartment.

As others have said, there is no air con, but we left the bedroom window and doors open as much as possible.
The facilities in the apartment are great, everything you need in the kitchen, and a washing machine that you can use too.

Allein die Luftqualität in der Wohnung hätte besser sein können. Es gibt zwei Toiletten, jeweils ohne Möglichkeit zum Lüften.
Die Wohnung ist im Dachgeschoss. Sie hat keine Klimaanlage und wird sich im Hochsommer vermutlich sehr aufheizen. Für uns kein Problem, wir waren im März dort. Insgesamt eine klare Weiterempfehlung!

Good sized living space and bedroom. Nice shower room but strong drain/damp smell (so kept door closed! There is a 2nd wc which helped!) If this could be dealt with 5/5 but would still recommend..

Der, wie in anderen Bewertungen, beschriebener Geruch aus den Abflüssen ist leider wirklich etwas störend. Wir haben entsprechende Tür zum Badezimmer geschlossen gehalten. Auch die Kalkablagerungen im Bad sind leider etwas unschön aber war für uns jetzt gut übersehbar. Allem im allem haben wir uns wohl gefühlt, würden aber nicht nochmal buchen.

Tolle Lage und Ausstattung. Ruhige Umgebung nah an Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und An Island hat alles unternommen uns die Woche Aufenthalt angenehm zu gestalten.
Leider sind die verkalkten Ecken im Bad nicht zu übersehen. Die verlegten Fliesen im Bad sind zwar sehr schön, aber auch schwer zu reinigen und führen dadurch zu dieser Verkalkung. Da muss das Reinigungsteam hart dran arbeiten...
Auch der stellenweise vorhandene Geruch aus dem Abfluss ist bei geschlossenem Fenstern "sehr unschön". Bei geöffnetem Fenster und Tür ist es ertragbar. Vor allem, wenn die vorhandenen Dufterfrischer ihren Dienst tun.
Da keine Klimaanlage vorhanden ist, würden wir diese Unterkunft im Sommer nicht buchen.
Bis auf die zwei genannten Punkte war die Unterkunft perfekt und die Kommunikation mit An Island reibungslos. Bei Nachfragen wurde sofort geholfen!

However, the lack of outdoor furnishings meant for an uncomfortable seat or lounger to sit back & take in the panorama.
The ensuite bathroom is in need of an update as it appears a little tired & unclean in areas.
I would stay again if these things have been addressed.

Ausstattung Küche (außer Spülmaschine)
Leider gab es keine Auflagen für draußen. Weder für die Metallstühle noch für die Liegen.
….da wir gerne auch auf dem Balkon sitzen oder liegen war das ziemlich unkomfortabel. Die Liegen haben wir dann leider gar nicht genutzt.
Auf Nachfrage bekam ich dann den Hinweis, dass wir von drinnen die Kissen mit nach draußen nehmen könnten. Leider gab es da nichts wirklich passendes für die Stühle und die Liegen schon gar nicht…. und die aus dem Schlafzimmer wollten wir nicht nach draußen legen.
Die Küche und das Bett waren sauber. Das Bad soweit auch. Allerdings hatten wir den Eindruck, dass dort nie gewischt wurde.
Wir hatten ständig richtig schwarze Fusssohlen…
Mit dem Abfluss stimmt auch etwas nicht, weil die Wohnung zeitweilig nach Fäkalien gestunken hat.
